Mexican American professional wrestler Rey Mysterio has partnered with the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in promoting “be a STAR,” a multi-platform, nationwide anti-bullying campaign aimed towards ensuring a positive and equitable social environment for everyone.
The wrestling superstar believes the effort is a worthwhile initiative in that it could help educate people about the importance of respecting individual differences, this, regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation.
As part of his all-out support for the campaign, Rey Mysterio recently visited Manila to take part in “Bully Buster,” a symposium focused on spreading awareness concerning bullying.
The event, which drew over a hundred Filipino children, was hosted by family and child development psychologist, Honey Carandang.
“It was quite fulfilling on my behalf to be part of the endeavor,” said Rey Mysterio as he hobnobbed with the children who were very eager to shake his hands and have their picture taken with him.
“I am a parent myself and among my concerns is for my children to grow up with the right values,” he added. “And I believe this campaign is truly helpful in that aspect.”
Known for his exciting, high-flying style, Rey Mysterio gained fame in the 90s via his stint in World Championship wrestling (WCW).
Today he is one of the most popular stars of wrestling. His trademark is the elaborate mask he dons during matches. During his time in WCW, Rey Mysterio won the WCW World Tag Team Championship three times, and the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship once.
In WWE, Mysterio is a three time world champion. He also held the WWE Tag Team Championship four times, and the WWE Intercontinental Championship twice.
He is currently listed as the lightest world champion in WWE history.
